Have you ever thought of your blogging expectations and go wow, was I expecting those things? That is how I feel whenever I remember all those realistic and unrealistic expectations I had when I started blogging in 2015- I wanted to blog daily, connect with various bloggers and so on.

Today’s blog episode is about those expectations I had as a new blogger and how I currently feel about them.
  1. Expectation: I had a pessimistic expectation- Google Adsense will not approve my application immediately. Reality: My blog got approved by Google Adsense a few weeks after submitting my application.
  2. Expectation: All my friends will support me. Reality: Only a few did! Most of the people who visit my blog and regularly share the link are people I didn’t know. (thank you!)
  3. Expectation: Blogging is as simple as the alphabetReality: A lot of work going into blogging. For instance, scheduling, content writing, photoshoots, photo editing and so on.
  4. Expectation: Blogging is inexpensive. Reality: Blogging can be expensive, it depends on what you want to spend your money on. I refer to it as investment because in the long run, it will pay off. I usually invest in the essentials of blogging for instance, blog courses, apps, photography gadgets, clothing and mental health (a happy mind will produce good results).
  5. Expectation: I’ll blog every day. Reality: Breaks are needed to unwind and relax.
  6. Expectation: I planned to quit because of some negative comments I received back in 2016. Reality: It is 2021, and I’m still blogging! It has become part of my life, I may take a break, but I don’t see myself quitting.
  7. Expectation: I won’t change my blog niche, hair blogging. Reality: I’m now a lifestyle blogger
  8. Expectation: I’ll use a free hosting site (blogger.com). Reality: I am currently blogging on WordPress. It is far better than blogger.com and more professional. However, I am glad I started on a free hosting site. It taught me the fundamentals of blogging.
  9. Expectation: Google Adsense is the only way I can monetize my blog. Reality: I’ve got various content writing jobs via my blog.

10. Expectation: I’ll get to the point that writing 1000 words will be a must. Reality: I write according to my flow; if it is above 300 words, thank God, if up to a thousand words, glory be to God.

Conclusion

Blogging is a journey. You’ll make mistakes, learn, unlearn, relearn, evolve and be more productive by the day. Don’t stress about where you are in your journey; you have a beautiful future ahead.
