Let me share one of the most annoying experiences that almost had a negative impact on my health. A few days ago I went shopping for home essentials; when I was given the receipt, I immediately noticed an error. I pointed it out to the cashier, and guess his reason for the error, “Sorry ma’am, it’s because your baby was crying”. What! He wasn’t even ‘crying’ or should I say ‘wailing’, and his next excuse was, “ I was trying to hurry up because of the people behind you” meanwhile, two people were behind me, and another cashier came to attend to them.

At that point, I knew he was going to mess up my day, so I told him I wasn’t going to ignore his mistake because he lied; then I asked for a refund when he made some nasty comments.

Then he called the manager; the manager wanted to act tough by saying, “oh apologies, ma’am, but once we’ve issued a receipt, we don’t accept returns”. I looked him in the eyes and asked him to repeat himself, which he did. Then I took the receipt and read out what was written about refund or exchange “refund or exchange is permitted within 7 days of purchase”.

The manager knew I didn’t come to play, he kept starring at me, and I asked, “what’s the matter? Has the cat got your tongue?” He reluctantly collected the items, and I was refunded.

When I got home, I thought about how miserable I would have felt if I didn’t do anything about the situation. On the other hand, if he hadn’t lied, that drama wouldn’t have occurred. I didn’t want to be a victim of his mistake and lie.

On the first day of this month, I decided to embrace intentional and mindful living. I made this decision based on how I felt last month. I realized I was consumed with how I have been wronged and what I need to do for others that I got so withdrawn from myself. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean I’ll become wicked or insensitive, no! but I will not allow my state of mind to be messed with by the willful misconduct of others.

Intentional living simply means being conscious of your actions, and decisions in order or create a healthy lifestyle. It improves people’s self-confidence, esteem, health, personal & professional life. This is a way of life to most people, while others have to choose to live this way due to past mistakes.

The benefits of living intentionally are:

– You control your emotions.

– No one will take advantage of you when you know your rights.

– You glow from the inside out.

– Pave the way for others to follow.

– Become the boss of your life.

– Have a happy and positive attitude.

– You look at the positive in negative situations; for instance, the negative experience I had a few days ago inspired me to write this post.

– Your actions and choices will align with your values.

– You control your thoughts.
