When I checked for places of attraction in Middlesbrough recently and saw Teessaurus Park, I thought it was a mistake, especially when I saw it is open 24/7. I had the courage and strength to visit the park recently, and to my surprise, it was quite a lovely place to visit if you want to spend time in solitude and nature. The most exciting part was walking from Cleveland Mall to the park.
About Teessaurus Park
Teessaurus Park is a 10-acre urban grassland leisure area and sculpture park established in 1979 in Middlesbrough’s Riverside Park light industrial neighbourhood on the River Tees’ southern bank. It was constructed on top of a former slag heap in what used to be the Ironmasters neighbourhood and is an iron-free representation of the region’s old iron and steel industry. The park features a tiny on-site parking lot and has evolved into a natural preserve. The park is traversed by the Teesdale Way path.
Before going on an adventure to Teessaurus Park, here are a few things you need to know.
- Wear a pair of sunglasses or glasses because of the flies. This was a huge distraction from the fun, as the flies made us uncomfortable.
- If you are allergic to grass, then wear a pair of boots. I always wear boots when going to the park because some grasses are unnecessarily long. Also, jeans help.
- Remember your jacket; the weather can be unpredictable.
- It is a walkable distance from Cleveland Mall; however, you can take a taxi.
- Visiting the park during the day is advisable as you can predict what can happen when it gets dark.
- Go with friends and family to make it fun.
- If you or your company don’t feel like going in, I suggest you don’t ignore the feeling.
- Use Google Maps if it is your first time visiting the park.
- Lastly, remember to wear sunscreen and use an anti-repellant spray/cream.
I couldn’t walk around the park because of the flies and the rain, so if you want to read more about the park, check it out HERE
