Long post alert! The journey I made to AbuDhabi yesterday was by far the most exciting trip I’ve made this year. I found myself packing my bags to travel to another Emirate after a sweet conversation with my husband. I was excited to see him again after what? Few weeks? It seems like a long time!
Now that I’m home, I can excitedly pen down my travel experience to two Emirates- Sharjah and Abudhabi from Dubai.
The Story
Firstly, this trip was spontaneous. There was no plan to be in Abu Dhabi this week, but my husband told me he had extra days to spend in the Capital of the UAE before going back to work. It’s a long story, but anyway, I felt it would be nice to see him again and get a few things done in AbuDhabi.
The initial plan was to travel directly from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, but Sharjah came into the picture because of Angel. She had to pick up a document from her home in Sharjah. I decided it would be best to accompany her to Sharjah then continue the trip to AbuDhabi since I’m more familiar with the bus station there anyways.
The Journey
Day 1.
We were picked up from home and taken to Al Nahda, the border between Dubai and Sharjah. This journey was about 25 mins from silicon oasis.
We alighted at the border, crossed through Sahara centre to Sharjah, took a taxi to Al Jubail bus station Sharjah. The ride to the bus station was about 20 minutes after angel picked up her document. During the solemn ride, we got a great view of Sharjah- Al Mamzar Beach, Eye of The Emirates, Blue Souk and so on.
We didn’t spend so much time at the bus station because we were the last passengers to enter.
The bus drove to Dubai and then finally arrived in Abu Dhabi. I believe that is the only route.
It was quite a long trip but was fun while it lasted. I got to bookmark various locations to visit soon as the bus took us through some fantastic sites in Dubai- museum of the future, oasis mall, Dubai frame, Al Boom Village, Wafi Mall, Ibn Battuta Mall, Mall of the Emirates and so on. It was easy to see these places because we rode along the Dubai Metro routes.
We spent approximately two hours from Sharjah. It was a smooth ride; however, travelling with a toddler isn’t fun; I kid you not! We lodged in Centro Al Manhol by Rotana just behind al Wahdah mall, 20 minutes walking distance from the bus station to the hotel.
Finally, to the sweet part! I got to see my husband again! * that was the highlight of the journey btw*.
A few hours later, I ordered our meal via the Zomato app, and it got delivered about an hour later.
In the evening, we strolled to Al Wahdah mall, visited various outlets, spent quality time in IKEA and afterwards, headed back to the hotel to get some rest.
Day 2
On the second day, we took a long walk of about 2 hours around the city. When we got tired, we got on the bus to Dubai. We saw spectacular buildings such as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Al Dar HQ Building along the way.
We finally got to ibn Batuta Mall Dubai about two hours later, and we took a taxi home. The journey back to Dubai was smooth because my son behaved like a gentleman, unlike the previous day.
If you find yourself planning a road trip to one or more Emirates after reading my journey, be sure to check out the following tips below.
- The location of the bus station from Dubai to Abudhabi is at Ibn Batuta.
- The cost of a taxi from Sahara centre to the bus station is 26 dirhams.
- Bus fare from Sharjah to AbuDhabi costs 33 dirhams per person
- Distance to Abu Dhabi is approximately 2 hours
5. Some hotels close to Al Wahda Mall are Grand Millennium Al Wahdah, Marriot, Centro by Rotana and so on.
6. If you are vaccinated, download the Al Hosn app for access to public places.
7. Download the Zomato app to order your food.
8. Research the places you want to visit in Sharjah and Abudhabi before embarking on the journey.
9. There are designated cabins on the metro for comfort, especially for women and children. However, you can stay in the Gold section for extra comfort at a higher rate than the regular ones.
10. Al Wahda Mall is close to the bus station in Abu Dhabi for your convenience.
11. Only vaccinated people are allowed in the malls and most public areas in Abu Dhabi.
12. Be sure to check with the hotel of your choice about accepting unvaccinated guests; some hotels do.
13. If you want to spend the night in another Emirate, book your hotel stay ahead of time. Usually, the check-in time is from 2 pm.
14. It’s NOT advisable to embark on this long trip if you are ill or with an infant as it is pretty tiring. If you’re pregnant, be sure to ask your doctor before travelling. The easiest way to go on this trip is by taxi or a private car directly to Abu Dhabi.
15. Most of the Metro Stations have direct access to malls and places of attraction in Dubai.
In summary, spontaneity is fun!
