Have you ever wondered how to make the most of an unplanned staycation, especially if the staycation is actually “workcation”? That was what I thought of when my husband and I needed to spend a few nights away from home. His kind of job makes us prepared for anything unusual. When I knew I would accompany him, the first thing I had to revisit was my travel checklist to make sure everything would be in order by the time I’d be leaving the house.

This topic is particularly important to me because I don’t function well under pressure neither am I creative when I have to make impromptu moves. I love planning for the unexpected so I don’t encounter unfortunately circumstances. However, when life presents a situation beyond my control, I do what needs to do be done and pray for the best outcome.

We got back home a few days ago, and the first time that came to mind was, “my blog readers will benefit from the tips on making an impromptu staycation easier to plan”. This guide will help you organise your time and make your impromptu staycation memorable.

How to plan an impromptu staycation.

1. If you are booking the hotel yourself, do this through a booking app. The benefit of using a booking app is you get cheaper rates. Additionally, various hotels might suit your style on booking apps.

2. Pack the essentials on your travel list. For instance, self-care kits (perfumes, skincare products, makeup), work items, shoes, clothes, wallet, keys, medications etc

3. Wear comfy clothing when travelling to a new city. Know the weather condition of the city/country you are travelling to and dress appropriately.

4. Travelling with a child/toddler? Don’t forget to take their bags along.

5. Take some snacks along (I snack at any time).

6. Set an alarm. You might be exhausted from the journey; it’s best to set the alarm if you need to be up early.

7. You can lodge close to a tourist site if you are in a new city. Doing this will help you save costs while exploring the tourist attractions in your free time. We stayed at Ibis Style Dragon Mart. Luckily, we were just a few minutes away from the famous China Market in Dubai.

8. If you travel for business, you should extend your stay in the hotel by a day for pleasure.

9. Don’t forget to capture beautiful moments.

10. Visit places of interest in the city whether you lodge close to one or not.

11. Don’t forget to lock the doors and windows at home and keep all leftovers in the refrigerator. You don’t want to come back to a strange-looking house or get worried about what might be wrong at home. That thought can ruin your staycation.
