Hello! I hope you are having a fabulous week? Today’s post is a little different from the usual. I’ll be reviewing a blog post on self-care from one of my favourite websites www.bossbabechroniclesblog.com. She featured a guest blogger on this particular post, and I loved all the deets she wrote.

So can you guess how this review will be? It’s easy! I will compare what she shared in her blog with how the tips have improved my lifestyle. It will include details of what works for me, what doesn’t work for me, what I am yet to try and much more.

This sounds fun already!

This year started with so many uncertainties. I almost got caught up in the chaos of the delays, but I had to take a step back to evaluate what exactly was going on. That, my friend, was how I took control of my emotions; I stopped reacting and started acting, making conscious efforts to show up for myself, prioritizing my mental health above the recurrent issues I was facing. That was the beginning of genuine freedom.

Honestly, I hadn’t felt that way in a long time.

It’s been months since I decided to be mindful about self-care for better mental health, and sincerely I love every bit of the journey and progress. According to the post written by Sarah, Self-care is the practice of consciously doing things that preserve or improve your mental, physical health and well-being.”

So what did Sarah discuss about self-care and what’s my opinion? Let’s check it out!

• Talking to a friend.

I once had an ugly experience some years back when I confided in someone that I called my friend. So I would say be mindful of who you call a friend. If you can’t trust them enough to talk to them, please don’t push it. If you have a trusted friend you can share your burdens with, please do. A problem shared is a problem semi-solved.

Journaling.

This is a great way to free your mind from your worries and stress. Journaling is one of the ways I got inspired to start a blog. However, I’d suggest that you avoid writing vital information about yourself.

• Getting out in nature.

Whenever I’m out in a natural site, I’m always in awe of God’s wonders. I start to feel the peace of God that supersedes man’s understanding. I mean, Is there anything too big for God? Also, did you know, according to medical experts, walking in nature helps to lower cortisol levels in your body and calm your brain? My neurologist gave me this useful tip! However, I usually go at sundown to avoid exposure to the sun.

• Being creative.

Creativity is basically defined as creating something new and unique in any form. Therefore it is best to be in a state of flow to improve your mental health. I agree with this because creative writing and photography help me forget about whatever troubles me.

• Writing a letter to a friend.

I did this last year when we moved to another city. My friend and I kept in touch via emails and handwritten letters. It was such a great time- anytime I checked my email and got a notification, it made me happy.

• Netflix marathons.

Yes, yes, yes!! I’m screaming (lol). I’m that person that feels more comfortable dealing with issues myself, so honey, a Netflix marathon is it for me! Check out some of the shows I saw a few months ago.

• Baking.

Last year, I learnt to bake different types of cake; I can remember laying in bed, thinking of some plans that seemed way too big for me to achieve. When I got frustrated with the thoughts, I’d go to the kitchen and bake some cake. Sometimes it would come out looking funny, while other times, it was tasty.

• Painting your nails.

As cool as this may sound, I’d paint my nails when I feel great instead. I usually get nervous when I paint my nails, so I avoid anything that could be stressful or trigger anxiety. What I do that seems related to this is play the colouring game on my phone. Check it out.

• Doing a facemask.

I love doing this when I’m tired and mostly before I hit the bedroom. My favourite sheet mask is Neutrogena Hydrogel Recovery Mask.

• Bubble baths.

I am not a huge fan of bubble baths, but I enjoy spending time in the shower while listening to my favourite music or the sound of rain. How cool is that? Yves Rochers Vanilla Bourbon Shower Gel is one of my go-to shower gels for a long, steamy, relaxing shower routine.

In summary, self-care means different things to people, so it is crucial to understand your flow, schedule, and best option to get the best from your self-care routine.
