I read an article on life lessons no one tells you about. It was an interesting read, especially when I started having opinions about them. Below are the life lessons and my thoughts.
1. Nobody cares. To some extent, I disagree with this. I believe most of the people you surround yourself with may not care, but a few of them will. However, this is contingent on what they care about, the relationship level, your authenticity and your history with them. The bottom line is, yes, a few people will care a lot about you, but no one can care for you more than the way you care for yourself.
2. Take time to know who you are. It is necessary to do this! So many of us have experienced traumatic events that make us gradually forget who we are, our values and so on. Apart from negative events, we all go through phases. The more we experience different phases, the more we understand certain things. Therefore, it is important to get to know yourself.
3. The more you give, the more you receive. Based on my experience, I totally believe the more you give, the more you receive. However, you should have a genuine heart when giving.
4. No work is beneath you. Well, from a humble perspective, yes, I agree. I don’t mean we shouldn’t aim to do and be the best. But if we have the mindset that no work is beneath us, we will treat everyone with respect. Recently I saw a post that I believe suits this particular point. Check it out below.
5. Start meditating. I believe meditation helps the mind and body, especially when meditating on the right things.
6. Don’t be afraid to take risks. Yes, don’t be afraid to take risks but don’t take unnecessary risks to prove a point.
7. Don’t make decisions when you are emotional. Well, I’d say don’t make decisions when you have negative emotions. On the other hand, positive emotions can lead to positive decisions with the right people, but they can also lead to unrealistic promises. Therefore, think through before making a final decision.
8. You don’t need to impress anyone. When I saw this point in the article, I initially agreed completely but quickly realized that there’s a positive side to impressing people. By that, I mean doing it without a negative attachment. For instance, there’s nothing wrong with impressing your spouse, friends, and others when you have a genuine reason. I know you understand what I mean 😀.
9. Listen to learn. Although listening is actually a skill, sometimes, it takes a lot of effort to perfect the skill, and it’s worth it because learning never ends. So, it’s imperative always to listen.
10. You quit, you lose, you fail. Well, This depends on the context. Yes, sometimes it happens that way, while other times you quit, gain, and progress.
11. Don’t bother what others think. I don’t fully agree with this. But, though we can’t live at the mercies of other’s opinions, as you do what makes you happy, don’t hurt others in the process.
12. Don’t make assumptions. Totally agree with this. The mind always tries to create reasons for uncertainties, which can adversely affect relationships. Therefore if you are not sure of something, instead of assuming, ask.
Over to you, I would like to know what you think.
