Haircare article: Key Points.
  • Braids Overview.
  • My Hair Type.
  • Haircare Routine.
  • Current protective style

Cornrow braids are one of my favourite protective styles mainly because I can get them done by myself. I love getting protective hairstyles because my edges are fragile, and I need my hair to look healthy.

A few weeks ago, I made pink ombre cornrow braids. It was the first time I would be rocking my favourite colour on my hair.

How did I feel? Happy, especially with the length!

I made it butt length to accommodate my ever-changing hair ideas- bun style, side-swept, pigtail style and so on.

I wanted a new hair look, so I took out the braids a few days ago. Whenever I take out my braids, I follow a strict hair care routine for about 2-3 days before getting a new style.

This strict hair care routine is suitable for my hair type- 4 C; however, since I have been relaxing my hair for as long as I can remember, it is easier to maintain. The horrible reality of relaxing my hair is taking out my braids when there’s a massive undergrowth. I relax my hair 3-4 times yearly, and my hair grows fast, so it is crucial for me to have a simple and good haircare routine that ensures that my hair stays nourished, healthy, and tangle-free.

Today’s post will focus on the cornrow braids I had earlier, my haircare routine after taking out the braids and my current protective hairstyle. Let’s get right into it!

Like I stated earlier, the cornrow braids I had was butt-length pink ombre braids. I made it myself, and it took about an hour to get it done because of the length and that made me enjoy styling the braids in various ways. I had it on for about two weeks before getting it out. My favourite hair accessory is the silver clip that I added to the hair. Before I took out the braids, I oiled my scalp with Amla oil. The benefit of applying oil to my scalp before taking out the braids is to prevent hair breakage and to detangle the undergrowth.

Day One.

I took out the braids and used a wide mouth comb to detangle the undergrowth. The benefit of using this kind of comb is to avoid significant hair loss and make it easier to get through the hair. Then I applied the Olive Oil Hair Mask and waited for about an hour before washing it with Garnier Ultra Doux Healing Castor & Almond Oils Shampoo and Conditioner. Once I was done with that, I rubbed Amla oil to my hair and massaged my scalp gently; a sweet feeling!

Day Two.

I applied the Vatika Egg Hot Oil Treatment Cream to my hair, wore a shower cap and left it on my hair for about an hour before washing it with Mega Growth Shampoo and Conditioner. Then, I rubbed the Mega Growth Hair Oil and massaged my scalp.

Day Three.

I made another type of Cornrow braids. This time, I added Ombre Grey hair extensions to the ends of the braids and made four cornrows instead of six like the previous braids.

I will maintain the braids with NOVA NATURAL HOLD HAIR SPRAY and my edges with a transparent gel.

Over to you, how do you care for your hair after taking out your braids?
