When I’m not blogging, you can find me taking courses to enhance my career. This year, I completed four online courses: Digital Branding and Engagement, Fundamentals of Digital Marketing, Social Media Marketing, and Contract Law. Out of all the courses I took, the most intriguing and challenging course was Contract Law.
I found it challenging because it is not directly related to my field. What I mean is, as a Business Psychologist and Digital Marketing Specialist, it is important for me to know the basics of contract law because I will relate better with clients and create terms & conditions that can foster a positive business relationship.
The learning process was quite daunting as I had to balance caring for my son and studying. Today I am glad I did not give up. Every module had tests, some of which were graded. I got nervous when I was about to take the final exam. However, the moment I was done and saw that I passed, I was elated!
So far, I understand what to include in a contract if I were to create one. Also, I can ascertain when to accept an offer based on the terms and conditions and how it will favour me. Additionally, I learned the power of negotiating & bargaining and so much more. This knowledge helped me recently with one of the companies I worked for.
In conclusion, I do not regret taking this course. I would advise anyone going into a partnership or starting a business to familiarize themselves with the knowledge of contract law. If you can’t, have a go-to lawyer who can be of assistance to be protected, know your rights, and have an amicable business relationship with your clients.
What have you done recently that is not directly related to your field?
