These days, if I am not managing social media accounts, binge-watching Netflix series, scheduling photoshoots, or taking an online course, you will find me googling intentional parenting topics.
I stumbled upon some parenting blog posts on Pinterest while doing my usual rounds of idea pinning. The blog posts I read made me feel guilty (not in a wrong way, lol) but made me think I am doing my best. I enjoyed reading how parents can be present in their children’s lives in both little and big ways.
My friends and I usually share our struggles, gains, wishes, and lessons as parents. It makes the motherhood journey more joyful.
Today, I would like to share some of the lessons I learned from the parenting blogs I have been visiting recently.
1. Avoid being the food dump truck.
If your goal is to stay fitness weight or eat healthier, don’t be the family dump truck for food. Don’t try to help your children or hubby finish up his meal because doing this will make you put on unnecessary weight.
2. Don’t be scared to ask other moms.
Being friends with other moms who are nice to you and offer their help when necessary is a blessing. Don’t shy away from asking a thing or two from those who’ve walked the path.
3. Whatever habits you don’t want your children to learn, avoid doing it in their presence.
It is easier said than done, but if you don’t want your child to be slouching, walking on their barefoot, cussing, aggressive, then unlearn such behaviours.
4. Learn other ways to say no to your child.
Parenting seems easier when we just say NO to our children, doesn’t it? Instead of using the N-word often, try explaining a little by saying, “I won’t be happy to see you with that item, it is dangerous”, “it isn’t a good idea”, “that is for grownups”. Saying no, constantly don’t educate your child; it is better to teach them why you disapprove of certain behaviours rather than creating a wall between you and your child.
5. Stay hydrated.
Not just as a mom but also give your children water regularly. It might skip your mind to remember that your little ones don’t only need milk. What may help with this is to track their water intake online and the old way, on a water tracker logbook.
If you love this blog, kindly share the posts with your friends and loved ones. It will mean a lot to me to know your thoughts in the comments. Love, Grace
