Most times, the thought of putting a smile on someone’s face is usually accompanied by the amount of money that you would spend. There are various articles on ways to make yourself happier or improve your wellbeing without breaking the bank but have you considered how you can genuinely make someone happy without spending a dime?

This post will address various ways to promote positive wellbeing on three relationship levels-Acquaintance/Stranger, Friendship and Dating/Marriage.

Disclaimer: I am not in any way implying that you shouldn’t help someone financially when you need to neither do I mean happiness can only be derived from external things. The purpose of this post is to inspire you to make people happy by being your authentic and best self.

1. Stranger. This may sound creepy at first but putting a smile on the face of someone you’ve just met isn’t as difficult or weird as you may think.

You can do this by assisting people on your route to work, giving up your seat for an older person, answering a question politely, smiling at someone who looks sad, and so on.

2. Friendship. It is rare to find a true friend who can have your back a 💯 however, when you do, keep them close. Want to make your friend happy? Be that loyal friend. According to psychologytoday.com, some of the ways to identify genuine friends who care about your wellbeing are by their:

  • Loyalty.
  • Honesty.
  • Confidence.
  • Support.
  • Affection.

3. Dating & Marriage: There is nothing like loving the right person and knowing that the feeling is mutual. Happiness derived from loving the right person is second to none.

So how can you make your significant other happy? Going on spontaneous frugal dates, falling in love daily (not getting used to the feeling), managing conflict better, working on your flaws, being an active listener, being truthful at all times.

In summary, genuine happiness is free – free to give and to receive (by asking). Be the reason someone smiles today.
