experiences in the various states, so I got inspired to write about it here.
The states I have visited in Nigeria are marked in the picture above, but I’ll write on the most memorable experiences for this post.
1. Lagos- A few times:
The most interesting visit to Lagos was in 2012. I went with my mom and sister, and we stayed at Victoria Island. Although in my head, we went on a ‘girls trip’ but in reality, I was the only one having fun because my mom and sister had something important to do. What I remember about the trip was that I spent most of the time alone or just moving around, but the worst thing I experienced was being stuck in ‘Lagos traffic’ and getting back so late. It was definitely an encounter I will never forget!
2. Rivers in 2013 & 2018:
My sister and I went to a family friend’s wedding in this state. The second visit was with my husband (then fiancé). The first thing I observed about Portharcourt was the vegetation (Freshwater swamp): so green! I kept telling my husband how much I loved the view.
3. Osun 2010 – 2014:
I schooled at Bowen University Iwo in Osun state (Bachelors). That was a great experience for me because I learned a bit about the Yoruba culture and had a different weather experience (I used to live in Abuja before I got married).
4. Kano in 2004:
I still wonder how my mom and I managed to spend just one night in this state. We went for a crucial meeting, but I thought we would stay for about two days. I remember my short stay in Kano because it was about 5 hours away from Abuja, and it was hot: we travelled in August. I also noticed the vegetation of this state ( Sudan savannah) was different from that of Abuja (Guinea savannah).
These are the 4 most memorable travel experiences (of course, there are a lot I can’t write about because the post has to be concise). However, my greatest regret is that I don’t have pictures of these experiences either because I didn’t capture the moments or I didn’t save them properly… sadly….
Over to you, what are your most incredible travel experiences in Nigeria?
