When I was pregnant, one of my worries was which kids’ programmes to choose from

because the internet is saturated with all sorts of ‘kids programmes’. It wasn’t as difficult to decide when I gave birth as I thought it would’ve been.

Now he’s a toddler; he’s learning so fast. Below are the programs I allow him to watch and the reasons.

1. Listener kids: This is a Christian YouTube channel for kids. They teach simple bible verses, relate these verses to real-life experiences. Most of their songs have lovely rhythms; my favourite song is “Jesus Loves Me” because that was the first song I played for my son while he was in my womb.

2. Cocomelon: A family-friendly program that shows family values, morals, siblings games, class activities, outdoor activities, simple recipes and lots more. It features the grandparents, parents, siblings, classmates and the teacher of J.J. According to Netflix, this show had the highest view in the year 2020. I love this program because it shows various fun ideas on how to keep your children occupied. Available on Netflix and YouTube.

3. Number blocks: One of my friends told me how much her son enjoys this cartoon, so I played it for my son and luckily, he loves it. He finds the talking colorful blocks amusing. Of course, he doesn’t understand what’s going on, but he will grow to understand it. For now, he loves their songs and dance moves. It basically teaches the numbers and how to count in a fun way. There’s a similar show called alphabetic blocks, but I haven’t watched it yet. It’s available on Netflix.

4. Dave and Ava: It’s about a mixed-race family that lives in the countryside. I love how they play with the animals on the ranch. I believe the introvert in me likes it because it shows only Dave, Ava, their parents and their animals. Available on Youtube, and you can download their APP.

5. Mother Goose Club:  I love the blend of animation and human characters wearing costumes. Although it’s not so different from other kids programmes, I love how they make the ABC songs sound fun.

6. Hillsong kids: I love this because I listened to their songs a lot growing up, so it’s lovely to see my son enjoying the songs.

7. Peppa Pig: A British family-friendly cartoon that shows Peppa’s interactions with her classmates (other animals), play dates with her friends, little about her parent’s work, visits to other countries, school projects, what happens in their community and much more. I love how each character plays a distinct role. In summary, it’s a witty family-friendly programme. My husband and I enjoy the humour and mild sarcasm.

8. CJ and friends: I absolutely love her dance moves, and I dance along with her whenever I want to work out while taking care of my son… it’s like using one stone to kill two birds; Gabriel enjoys her videos while I have my ‘soft Zumba’ sessions, and that’s what I call a win-win situation.

Over to you, what TV shows are your children hooked on?
